► SELLER'S DESCRIPTION
Up for sale is a rare vintage Seiko Laurel 14037 men’s classic dress watch from the 1950s, produced for the Japan Domestic Market (JDM). The Seiko Laurel name occupies an important place in Seiko history and remains highly collectible among enthusiasts of early Japanese watchmaking. This example is powered by a Seikosha 11 jewel manual wind movement and features the timeless styling that defines the era. The watch is in full working condition and is running and holding accurate time over a 24-hour period. The watch is fitted with an aftermarket black leather strap. I believe the crystal was replaced at some point during the watch’s life. The crystal is slightly loose within the case and can be rotated by hand, although it remains securely fitted and does not come off the watch. The watch is in very good vintage physical condition with signs of use and age consistent with a watch of this era. The photos best describe its physical condition and should be reviewed carefully prior to purchase. ► ARCHIVE FILE: SEIKO — BRAND HISTORY

Seiko begins with Kintaro Hattori, who opened a shop selling and repairing clocks in Tokyo's Ginza district in 1881, at the age of twenty-one. He founded the Seikosha factory in 1892 to manufacture wall clocks, built Japan's first wristwatch, the Laurel, in 1913, and put the Seiko name on a dial for the first time in 1924. By mid-century his successors ran one of the most vertically integrated watch companies on earth, making everything from hairsprings to cases under its own roof.
