► SELLER'S DESCRIPTION
Up for sale is a rare vintage Seiko Speedtimer UFO 6138-0011 men’s automatic chronograph sports watch, produced for the Japan Domestic Market (JDM) in the 1970s. The 6138-0011, commonly known among collectors as the “UFO,” is one of Seiko’s most iconic automatic chronographs and is highly sought after for its distinctive case design, robust movement, and historical importance in the early automatic chronograph era. This example is an export version featuring an English/Roman numeral day wheel. Unlike domestic Speedtimer models, export versions were not marked with the Seiko 5 or Speedtimer insignia on the dial. The watch is in full working condition and is running and holding accurate time over a 24 hour period. The chronograph is fully functional and resets correctly to its proper positions. It should be noted that when manually changing the day by pulling the crown out one click, I encountered an issue on one occasion where the day did not advance as expected. However, after advancing the time, the day changed properly. The day also changes correctly when advancing through midnight. This is likely a minor quirk of the watch and may be a non-issue, but it should be disclosed. As with any nearly 60 year old chronograph with an unknown service history, the buyer should understand the vintage nature of the watch. While the chronograph was observed functioning properly, these movements contain delicate components that can become damaged or misaligned through excessive use, misuse, or lack of servicing. If absolute perfect operation is desired, I would recommend having the watch serviced. The watch is fitted with a genuine aftermarket Seiko stainless steel bracelet. The watch is in good vintage physical condition with signs of use and age. The photos best describe its overall appearance and physical condition. ► ARCHIVE FILE: SEIKO — BRAND HISTORY

Seiko begins with Kintaro Hattori, who opened a shop selling and repairing clocks in Tokyo's Ginza district in 1881, at the age of twenty-one. He founded the Seikosha factory in 1892 to manufacture wall clocks, built Japan's first wristwatch, the Laurel, in 1913, and put the Seiko name on a dial for the first time in 1924. By mid-century his successors ran one of the most vertically integrated watch companies on earth, making everything from hairsprings to cases under its own roof.
