► SELLER'S DESCRIPTION
Up for sale is a rare vintage Seiko 5 Sports Speedtimer UFO 6138-0011 men’s automatic chronograph watch, produced for the Japan Domestic Market (JDM) during the 1970s. The 6138-0011, commonly known among collectors as the “UFO,” is one of Seiko’s most iconic automatic chronographs, prized for its distinctive cushion-shaped case, robust 6138 movement, and historical significance as one of Seiko’s legendary automatic chronographs. This example is the highly desirable Japanese domestic version, featuring the original Japanese day wheel along with the correct Seiko 5 Sports and Speedtimer dial insignia that collectors look for. The watch is running and holding accurate time over a 24 hour period. However, the chronograph currently has an issue where it runs continuously and cannot be stopped because the side pushers are not properly engaging the chronograph mechanism. As a result, the chronograph cannot be started, stopped, or operated correctly. The watch will require a service to correct this issue, and given its age, a full service would likely be beneficial as I am unsure when the watch was last serviced, if ever. The watch is fitted with an aftermarket stainless steel bracelet. The watch is in good vintage physical condition with signs of use and age. The photos best describe its overall appearance and physical condition. ► ARCHIVE FILE: SEIKO — BRAND HISTORY

Seiko begins with Kintaro Hattori, who opened a shop selling and repairing clocks in Tokyo's Ginza district in 1881, at the age of twenty-one. He founded the Seikosha factory in 1892 to manufacture wall clocks, built Japan's first wristwatch, the Laurel, in 1913, and put the Seiko name on a dial for the first time in 1924. By mid-century his successors ran one of the most vertically integrated watch companies on earth, making everything from hairsprings to cases under its own roof.
